29 Sensors in Medicine 2020 Methods: Fabrication of 3D Bio-Responsive Hydrogel PEGDA pre-polymer solutions with two different molecular weight are gently mixed with concentrated spherical gold nanoparticles and concentrated gold nanostars and polymerized under UV-light. The two different molecular weights give to the sensor the capability of detect molecules with different molecular weights for a multiplexed 3D device. The inclusion of different gold nanostructures within alternating layers of PEGDA, with controlled mesh size, can be used for the simultaneous detection of biomolecules having different molecular weights. Confocal Fluorescence Microscopy Metal-enhanced fluorescence studies are currently ongoing to achieve dual-mode optical biosensor. 1 Miranda, B., Chu, K.-Y., Maffettone, P.
