31 Sensors in Medicine 2020 This work was supported by the EPSRC CDT in Intelligent Sensing and Measurement, Grant Number EP/L016753/1. Glucose Detection • Calibration curves using chronoamperometry at 0.5 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in PBS spiked with glucose. Data points taken at 30 s • Electrochemical cleaning can increase signal by a factor of 10 • Error is less than 2 % for repeats of same electrode • Linear region falls over glucose concentrations in sweat of healthy individuals • Normalising current to 500 μM removes effect of enzyme coverage Reference Electrode • Miniaturising the reference electrode is a key challenge • Maximum lifetime requires careful choice of AgCl thickness • More is not always better • Longest lifetime is on average more than 24 hours Lifetime can be increased with a membrane, such as Nafion Bottom Insulator Substrate Ag 250nm 60 µm diameter Top Insulator Platinum 50nm AgCl Range in sweat of healthy individuals Fully chlorinated
