Harvard-Spun Health Analysis StartupWhoop
Quietly Raises $6M
Boston fitness and health analytics for athletes and coaches start
upWhoop has raised around $6 million in funding. The start up
was founded by Harvard student
Will Ahmed
in 2012 out of
the Harvard Innovation Lab with the goal of creating a wristband
alternative to the classic chest strap monitor to continuously collect
and analyze heart-rate data.
The Goose Bump Sensor
Can emotional states be measured quantitatively, and if so what
would advertising, manufacturing and social media companies do with
that data? A team of researchers at
KAIST
in Daejeon, South Korea
has developed a flexible, wearable 20mm x 20mm polymer sensor
that can directly measure the degree and occurrence on the skin of
goose bumps (technically known as “piloerection”), which is caused by
sudden changes in body temperature or emotional states.
Ocean Optics STS Microspectrometer Meets New
Application Challenges
The STS is a compact, high-performance
unit designed for integration into
spectroscopy instrumentation, medical
devices and other analytical setups where
a small footprint is desired. The STS
microspectrometer has helped customers
solve application challenges ranging
from analyzing salmon DNA at various
concentration levels to measuring the reflectance of barley crops
from an unmanned aerial vehicle flying 10 meters above the land.
