S100: Hi Jennifer. Your job title sounds awesome. Is it a lot of responsibility?
JS:There is certainly a lot of responsibility to go around when you
work for a company that prides itself on concurrently driving innova-
tion and continuously improving upon its world-class diagnostic prod-
ucts. I’m privileged that I have the opportunity to share these responsi-
bilities with incredibly talented and passionate people.
S100:You have a lot of experience in the medical diagnostic sensors; what
development are you most proud of?
JS: I am a problem-solver by nature, and I enjoy finding solutions to
highly complex technical problems. To me, the most satisfying solutions
are those which are the most elegant or surprisingly simple. One such
solution was identified while working on a chloride ion selective mem-
brane.
For chloride ion selective electrodes, many commercialized products
utilize the quaternary ammonium salt, tridodecylmethylammonium chloride
(TDMACl) as the ion exchanger. For our project’s purposes, however, this
ionophore presented some selectivity and use-life challenges.
