Inaugural Conference Highlighted New
Technology
The
Sensors in Medicine 2013
conference held at the Wellcome
Collecon in London on 6-7 March was very successful accord-
ing to delegates. The conference adopted an innovave format of
bringing together leading academic researchers with commercial
organisaons. The
f speakers set an exceponally high
standard, there was a small exhibion of innovave sensor technol-
ogy, and the conference concluded with a panel discussion on the
Future of Sensors in Medicine.
Examples of the innovave technology presented at the conference
included:
Diagnosis
: An electronic nose based on an array of resisve
sensors which was trained via a neural network algorithm to
detect gastric cancer in breath (
Dr. Yoav Broza
, Technion-Is-
rael Instute of Technology)
Monitoring
: A wearable array of micro sensors which parally
penetrated the paent’s skin to provide connuous real-me
monitoring of intersal glucose for diabetes control (
Profes-
sor Tony Cass
, Imperial College, UK)
Prevenon
: Sensors which would empower people towards a
healthier life and towards disease prevenon, such as a wear-
able sensor which measures stress levels (
Professor Chris van
Hoof
, Imec, Belgium)
