invited speakers, and by implication in the other presentations. Look-
ing at technology platforms, impedance measurement appeared in
several papers along with the expected amperometry, potentiometry,
plasmon resonance etc. “Multiplex” appears to be recognised as
desirable characteristic for sensor platforms – the ability to adapt a
biosensor to several different targets.
Socially, everyone seemed to have a good time. At the drinks recep-
tion on the first night, exhibitors were invited to give a light hearted
90 second elevator pitch (see
Sensor100
’s amateur attempt).The
conference hotel was excellent and Elsevier did a flawless job of stage
managing the event. It was rumoured that the 2015 conference might
be in Lisbon. We look forward
to seeing you there.

90-Second Eleva-
tor Pitch
Hello! I’mMichael Brand from Sen-
sor100 and I’m here to help you. e
problem with biosensors is that despite
all the research, as evidenced by this
Conference, very little of it is com-
mercialised. Tony Turner made this
point in his excellent opening talk. If
some good commercial applications
aren’t found, all the funding will dry up
and you’ll no longer be able to come to
conferences like this one. Sensor100
was started to bridge the gap between
research and the commercial world.

this year, Sensors in Medicine 2013, and
if you are serious about healthcare ap-
plications you will want to be at Sensors
in Medicine 2014…
